a prose poem about poems

 a prose poem about poems

writing poetry is between you and the use of language ~ the reward of appreciation lies in the confirmation of one’s efficacy in the manipulation of words ~ the affirmation of the Darwinian survival of expressive reflection of thought ~ i write therefore i am

tenby in the night in the rain

tenby in the night in the rain

the town is yours

the rain is yours

the harbour is yours

‘what more do i need’ is yours

tonight the lights are just right

for you are in town tonight

and no one else’s no one else is

is everything you know

what is the use of

 what is the use of

kings and queens and princes and earls

as the world burns and the health service turns

are we all the lemmings now

                 STOP!

turn around and face them

oust them now   oust them now

the non-doms and the mindless cows

chase the demons from the gadarene swine

the money changers from the temple

it’s the age old hyperbole that tells of truth

the rictus of our doom is upon us

the ratchet clicks on the way up

everyone is in the tumbrel now

the gallows drop and the gallows drop

kiss the noose goodbye

for it’s later than you think

what is the use of

kings and queens and princes and earls

when the last post flag unfurls

the last post flag unfurls

oh that one day

 oh that one day

we sat long in the winter sunshine

where the ivy climbed the silver birch

such a pity they were all dead

had the marsh gas got them

we asked between sandwiches and tea

the sun lowered as we set off home

the sea was on the right the woods on the left

the marsh beneath our feet

ian mcmillan’s early strolls

 ian mcmillan’s early strolls

and so it goes

the scroll of life on an early stroll

everything finding you finding you

in everything that passes for life

as the light dawns it dawns on you

that it’s time for tea

so it’s home for thee

my dear old chickadee

blizzard

 blizzard

and now these days

when it snows

there is a blizzard

all across the twitter sward

images

one need not imagine

anymore

other than the words that speak

of the invisibility we seek

are we not all falling now

like the snow

when do we want tomorrow?

 when do we want tomorrow?

it is morally bankrupt it’s obscene

in the same way as we pay footballers vast sums

when hospitals are a war scene

when will the lemmings learn

non-doms are the pogrom

that is bleeding their ‘why?’ dry

their have lit the blue touch paper

the vermin in ermine cower

from people power

when do we want tomorrow?

today!
