the taf estuary

 the taf estuary

each time a tale

flowing and ebbing

ebbing and flowing

the world’s breath

                     here

i do believe it is

the penultimate line

of a closing thought

how the castles were

but are no more

guard your words carefully

there are many stranded boats

wishing upon broken boards

reeds in the wind pointless

the mud an abstract colour

          what does it all mean

if nothing at all

then that is fine for me

a sigh on an outgoing tide

discloses it all

the incoming a homecoming

don’t you see

life is but an estuary

my daily swim

 my daily swim

on the bluebell path to langland

for a swim in the icy sea

although the north wind has eased

it is cold enough for snow and me

to say once more to the lazy sun

i have had my daily dip

and warmth is an alien word

if you are caught in a tidal rip

then the towel does its job

the rough glow returns to limbs as

i raise my eyes to the farthest point

i do so enjoy my daily swims

a thought about naught

 a thought about naught

if you ‘capture’

the uncapturable

what have you caught

you show me

                         naught

i say naught

about your thought

it would be such a pity

to set you free

talking of war

 talking of war

go away

but it will not of course we

have seen it in the cinema and enjoyed

the victory that is was ours always

the actors alive again to die another day

but oh when one’s finger almost touches

the sticky bloody facts

and turning every corner is but a selfish act

and where oh where can we hide from this

annoying newsy newsy confusy thing a me there

i have said that an apology is never enough

to assuage a torn heart in two or three

or how many in the mass grave on the road to in or out

of the lack of trust in forensic propaganda’s hand

the pen of many hands are torn every which way and that

is the fact we cannot hold and cannot rest this day

although we wish it would go away go a bloody away

and every sacrifice is a thread held in our hands

and i want

to but what can i do

i can’t for certain say

now the need of leaders true of statesmen who can carry trust

for truth is the first casualty of war

isn’t that what they said all those years ago

for i want to believe in a fact and strive until time’s end for

the arrival of tomorrow’s peace nailed hard and fast to the roof

against all future storms that are and of course will be again

but oh the pain of incredulity is hard to put away

my tears are slow to come but when they flow they will stay

as a crusty salt carapace on a burnished hand

but not now i say for it is too soon to know the truth

but the one’s who are left alive will know

the dead were not alone

they did not die alone

interred in humanity’s blood stained flag

our minds the open grave

for if the right one don’t get you the left one will

do you know

do you know

even as we die inside

outside we are burning the last will and testament

of our carboniferous mistake

nihilism seems to fit so well

that it seems so apt to dwell

on nothing ever found in nothing’s end

will ever be a just cause for any long lament

at the last footstep’s end

no one will know

how we cried today for yesterday

and for tomorrow

bloody hell

life’s algorithm

 life’s algorithm

unbalanced equation

or so it seems from either end

the end is the beginning

of the next quadratic

a generation apart

time is up

for the answers

please turn over

in the clover

all together now ….

such sadness

 such sadness

the pollarding of the trees

in suburban silence

all the doors locked on every street

the fingers point skyward

if any of the rush do deem to see

do ever deem it worth a look up

and down the same streets they go

frozen in each concreted row

beautiful in bark and sometimes leaf

who deemed it thus i want to know

what curtailment of aspiration

lent lead to the planner’s pencil

turned not to gold

along the old alchemy

facades of sad

they say soul ~ and i don’t have one

they say soul ~ and i don’t have one

they say god ~ and there isn’t one

life they say ~ and i ask what is that

they try to explain

but i am dead to it they say

so what sort of a dream is this

when they have to explain it all to me

           (it)

what is it to who

to whom a womb is a tomb

stop mumbling

you have lost the plot again

again i say

they said soul ~ and i don’t have one

go on ~ why don’t you try it

just say "it isn’t"

is it?
