death’s lament
closure is getting closer
isn’t that what they say
but like a window
in a summertime
that one does not want to go away
we beg leave it open
for just a teeny weeny while
maybe just one more loving day
how sad that life is full of autumns
in their penultimately colours
so beautifully enwrapped
and your memories a gift
never to be ended
forever golden
for ever under-wrapped
hold on in there
you know that you can
for what else can you do
may the bonfires of cliché
inappropriate misplaced sentiment
keep you warm on the dark nights
many of which lay ahead
what can anyone say that could be of any conceivable comfort
in the avalanche of emotion that is certainly coming your way
may the knowledge that you are in always my thoughts
be an intermittent lighthouse to cleave this terrible sea
a cleat for your life-raft slippers for your hearth
at the end of what you both created
is only the starkness of love’s grief
so let this end be a beginning
the beginning of an end
what can one say but
hello goodbye hello
your dear pal ~ jim
