there’s a whisper
a murmuration of crows
slowly wheeling in the dusk
clackward treeward
a joy to behold
in the lantern a candle flickers
a shiver crosses the moon
the tide has slipped beyond the woods
a fox stretches for its night
away the day
away the children adventures bed
this is the way it must have been
at the end of the firstest day
sipping a night-cup by the fire
dreaming down lids a sigh
my oh my
oh my oh my
my oh my oh my
