imponderable
every time i write a poem my mind is depolarised
the refractory period varies considerably and is
directly proportional to the consideration required
to write that poem and the voltage discharged in the heart of it
how the milk of kindness flows in the calcium channels
and the hormonal responses disrupted by the transmission
of the humours sent burning in the aether
see
see how the misfiring of neurones leeds me astray
sends the thoughts psychedelic-wards
how the catatonic state as slowly as a stalagmite
freezes me
refractory is not a thought but a waiting
the muse they call it
that hyper-polarisation of the reaction potential
before the explosive discharge of words
as awesome as a nuclear bomb’s detonation
that follows the simplest of algorithms
the fallout is ash to some fertiliser to others
but hey ~ shit happens they say
but during the neuronal firing or the refractory period
that is the question waiting for the answer
where does that leave the reader on the graph
of the reaction potential of a poem
imponderable is as good a word as any to ponder
