i’ll never be a famous poet

 i’ll never be a famous poet

i’ll never be a famous poet

because i am ordinary

or

   din

        ary 

no identity crisis

no unusual physical idiosyncrasies 

no gender dysphoria 

i’m not dead or depressed enough

to die tragically 

I do not possess a lectern voice

a performance poet i am not

i write lots of poems

                 that is true

but

i’ll never be a famous poet

not that i want to be

                  but surely 

one writes to be read 

does one not

someone famous said that 

or was it me
