six pit junction

six pit junction

near the limit of our surmise

where to walk further was to lose touch

there was six pit junction

a ruin of something walled in stone

and the pit itself fenced off darkness

yes care trespassed but only until

bravado was quenched

later it was capped leaving just a vent

to drop stones through and wait

for the inevitable response

six pit is where we train spotted

the reverberations telling of

a chance encounter with a new one

a new number

a new name

a new class of train

to be booked at speed

how beautiful they shone on a summer day

when the hours were stretched in warmth

camaraderie chatting of the next train

to the next station in life

booked now in this poem

underlined and noted

what a beaut
