the gone dusk is almost

 the gone dusk is almost

the losing of light at dusk is almost physical

drawing the blood brain downward

with its transmogrification of

the leaves that lose what autumn colour

they proposed was the old story

for not even ghosts are this cold

in the heart of watching it drain away

my lips slow in their wording

the cup to my lips poised in a

foreverness of the non-time

of this lonely soul’s wondering

where is the light going

or is it the darkness that is coming

as i stare at its storing

… it is gone

and no poem will ever bring it back

sometimes the flagellation of uninvited words

has the disappointment of youth’s insistence

that they know

pitch black is almost a consummation

on the flight home

 on the flight home

up there                in the air

she is a longing

                     floating

                               down

                           the sundown

look how sheepish the clouds are looking up                  to her

       as she looks down

on me

far away the sun rides home

tomorrow maybe?

maybe!

snapshots

 snapshots

being a photographer has made me a poet

being a poet has made me a photographer

smile me a tear

rest azured

 rest azured

when the mouse leaf chases its tail

the cat sits mesmerised

when the wind door rattles

the cat has her mad moment

as we call it

autumn of the spirit

as the year closes down

the fires are lit indoors and out

genuflection to the azure moon

what more dare i say

i think it is going snow

Friday, 1 November 2024

then i too am a poet

then i too am a poet

it is a paper chase of words

that have no idea that i have no idea where we are going

until the bell rings ‘all change! all change!’ but of course we have

it was

 it was

as boys

we sat on the high rocks

the warm ones with the german bullet

watching the log float downstream

wondering

as boys do

why the woman raised her arms

when the men pulled the log out

it was a real german bullet

it was

unintended

 unintended

but to sit and to think

to write and to short-change time

these are the moments that ‘good’ intentions lose

it is the time for unintended consequences

a time so precious one does not recognise it

when it is sitting there alongside you

listen

that deep breath

there it is again
