aberafon
the word promenade strolls through my thoughts
past the ornamental gardens and the playground boats
and slides past the long bars beered in sun
past the icecream kiosks and one by one
the kids skip steps down on to the beach
where the tide pulls adventures they beseech
their kites to fly their boats to row
the donkeys to ride with their hairy smell
roller coasters to ride so kiss me nell
with your candyfloss lips and toffee apple eyes
childhood returns i’ll have you surmise
that tomorrow was yesterday and yesterday’s today
come me pals let us be off to play
