no one listens to the fossils anymore

no one listens to the fossils anymore

no one listens to the fossils anymore

to what they say

about what happened yesterday

tomorrow we will certainly add

another fossil to the museum fad

walking the steps from there to here

ahead the sky’s no limit no limit

to what we can grow to be

you and me our ancestors’ scions

have the knowledge now that you can rely on

for

no one listens to the fossils anymore

how the species came and went

all that dinosaur lore is such a bore

no comet cometh as once did

god forbid this morbid infatuation

with warming this and warming that

what nation grew by chewing that fat

chance that armageddon lesson

that the fossils recite ad nauseum

in that dusty museum mausoleum

upwards upwards our inevitable trajectory

soothe say now don’t gainsay fools

how can it end this rocket burn

always someone else’s turn

to reap the whirlwind of the wind once sown

so disown once more their morbid predictions

the voices crying in the wilderness of their predilections

for nemesis at hubris’s aphelion

to fall at mankind’s perihelion

when El Niño shops at the corner store

maybe just maybe it’s time to go

collect your thought’s in a plain paper bag

and dump them in the trash can’s open mouth

east west north or south

the fossils are cracking open in the heat of mirth

gaea’s rolling in laughter across the earth

it was fixed in the fossils your fate mate

but now of course it’s quite too late

so lay down in an elegant repose

and fossilise your fossils thought

as predicted it has come to nought

look the future evolutionary peaks will say

that’s just the way they decided to go

and now of course they are no more

for

no one listens to the fossils anymore

said one thermophile to another

don’t you find it cold out here

ooo

shudder shudder
