cold lateral fire
when a collateral cloud ate the moon
at the end of a long and lonely night when
rescue lamps shone clear and bright and yet
bore witness how they would call death down soon
how they would kill their own embraced desire
to again still the death that they thought they’d killed
for at that lone enfilade that dastardly one-sided fire
although death was thrilled and the devil was thrilled
a lynchpin had finally been pulled
no longer would the world spin on and on
no longer would dissent be culled
for as one all of humanity’s light shone out
as one our voices were raised to shout
NO MORE! NO MORE!
not tomorrow but here now today
love and atonement must have its way
unload
